H.E. Abdullah Al NeyadiPresident of the UAE Muaythai and Kickboxing Federation
DR SAKCHYE TAPSUWAN
Muaythai is steeped in ancient tradition and a fundamental part of the history of its motherland, Thailand. As a modern-day IOC recognised combat sport under the governance of IFMA, muaythai is a great promoter of Olympism, blending sport with culture and education.
The IFMA community bring together diverse cultures through a shared passion for our sport and martial art, a community that thrives in the spirit of fair play, tolerance, and solidarity. Muaythai has truly become universal, as we see athletes and officials from all walks of life greet each other both in and out of the ring with the “wai”.
I would like to extend my deepest thanks and appreciation to the United Arab Emirates Muaythai federation, our gracious hosts for this year’s IFMA Senior World Muaythai Championships. Now that the post-pandemic era is in motion and the world sees the gradual resumption of many global events, I am confident that this edition of the IFMA Senior World Championships will be a success with all the important measures to safeguard the health and safety of the athletes and all its participants. This gathering of international delegations is, in many ways, a symbol of hope and resilience, as we come together in the spirit of solidarity through sport and friendship.
To all the athletes, this is your time to shine, and your responsibility to ensure that the Olympic values and the spirit of fair play are observed both on and off the field of play.
May you all live your dreams and leave with lifelong friends.
VICE PRESIDENT, GAISF
SECRETARY GENERAL, IFMA
It gives me great pleasure to welcome our Muaythai family from around the world to the 2022 IFMA Senior World Muaythai Championships hosted in the sport loving and culturally rich city of Abu Dhabi. I'd like to firstly extend my deepest gratitude to the United Arab Emirates Muaythai Federation under the leadership of H.E. Abdullah Saeed Amer Al Neyadi for hosting us this year.
It was only on the eve before the opening of the Tokyo Olympic Games that muaythai and IFMA were unanimously granted full recognition by the IOC General Assembly. It is through our shared achievements over the last decades that have led us to where we stand today. Membership in GAISF, ARISF, IWGA, included in many multi-sport games such as the World Games, European Olympic Games, World Combat Games, FISU University World Cup and the list goes on.
These achievements are the result of the solidarity within the IFMA family that is bound by a strict constitution that gathers 146 national federations, all working under the same rules and regulations, putting the safety and health of the athletes at the forefront, ensuring fair play and clean sport while protecting the ancient values and preserving the heritage of muaythai’s traditional elements.
A warm welcome to all nak muay and IFMA family members from all parts of the globe. Good luck to all of the athletes and let us use these next days together to continue our journey in solidarity towards our common goal.
Abu Dhabi is the capital city of the UAE and is the largest and most populated of the seven Emirates.
Abu Dhabi refers to “Father of the Gazelle” in Arabic. The story suggests that Abu Dhabi was founded after a young antelope found freshwater, which was followed by a wandering tribe.
Nowadays, Abu Dhabi is one of the most modern cities in the world and is a luxurious metropolis that is a stylish blend of beautiful cultural monuments and stark 21st century megastructures. It has everything from massive and beautiful mosques, some of the best theme parks in the world, a louvre museum, endless deserts and is one of the safest tourist destinations worldwide.
Arabic is the native language and English is the most common language used.
The UAE is four hours ahead of UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, formerly known as GMT) and there is no daylight saving. Hence, when it is 12.00 midday in Abu Dhabi, it is 4am in New York, 9am in London, 10am in Johannesburg, 1.30pm in New Delhi, and 6pm in Sydney (not allowing for any summer time-saving in those countries).
The local currency is the UAE dirham (AED or Dhs) and is pegged against the US $ (US $ 1: AED 3.6725).
Recognized as one of the safest cities on earth, Abu Dhabi's virtually crime-free environment and well-organized emergency services will bring you peace of mind and a relaxing stay.
Weather in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi boasts a warm, sunny climate all-year round. The winter season (December to mid-March) promises perfectly balmy weather with occasional rainfall and an average daytime temperature of 25℃. Summertime (late May to September) sees daytime temperatures soar to a sweltering 45℃ and higher, but this modern city is equipped for the heat with air-conditioning everywhere and plenty of indoor entertainment on offer.
